GOD HELP THE GIRL

This is a film for a younger target audience, teens and young adults – not that older adults can’t enjoy it. However, the focus is on teenagers, on music, creating music, performing music, but with a background of personal problems.

The film is a musical, many many songs, some singing performance in clubs, rehearsals, but others were into the action, especially by the central character, Australian Emily Browning, travelling, at home…

She is Eve,  in an institution because of anorexia, leaves, becomes involved with an earnest young musician, Ollie Alexander, who introduces her to a guitar student, Hannah Murray, and together, they work on creating songs, tape, hoping for some kind of recognition.

Complications, especially with another singer with commercial contacts, Pierre Boulanger, who has a relationship with Eve, but does not promote her music.

The a range of emotional complications, drugs, musical aspirations and hope, enthusiasms, disappointments, perseverance.

There was already an album in 2009, God Help the Girl, from the director, Stuart Murdoch, who created the band Belle and Sebastian.
