Emiliano Tardif MSC, beatification report.
When we posted new on Jules Chevlaier, Servant of God, a visitor to the Facebook page asked about our Canadian/ Dominican Republic confrere and his charism of healing.
Here is the status of his cause:
The cause for the beatification of Father Emiliano Tardif (1928–1999), a Canadian Missionary of the Sacred Heart, was officially opened in 2007. He is revered as a "Servant of God"—the first step in the canonization process—due to his reputation for holiness, his extensive ministry of evangelization, and his reported charism of healing.
Reasons for the Cause
- Healing Ministry and Charism: After contracting tuberculosis in 1973, Father Tardif experienced a profound personal healing through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, which led to a worldwide ministry of preaching and healing that took him to 63 countries.
- Founder: He founded the Community of the Servants of the Living Christ in 1982.
- Missionary Work: He dedicated most of his life to evangelization in the Dominican Republic, where he founded the Missionary Seminary of San José de las Matas and served as superior of his order.
- Holiness and Spirituality: His life was characterized by a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart and a focus on proclaiming Jesus' mercy and love through the charismatic gift of healing.
Status of the Cause
- Initiation: Following his death on June 8, 1999, in Argentina, Cardinal Rodriguez initiated the process for his beatification with the support of the bishops of the Dominican Republic and the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.
- Current Standing: He was listed as having his cause opened in 2007, with a focus on his "heroic virtues". The Congregation for the Causes of Saints granted the nihil obstat (no objection) in 2011.
- Documentation: Numerous testimonies and reported miracles of healing are associated with his intercession, supporting his reputation for sanctity.
