Fr John Ikataere MSC passed away around 11 am on the 8th February at the Sacred Heart House, Suva. In the last few weeks his health deteriorated rapidly.

He celebrated his 70th birthday on the 6th of January 2014.
Funeral arrangements are being made and its likely he will be laid to rest on Wednesday 12th February at the MSC private burial ground at Wailoku.

After Bishop Paul Mea he was the senior member of the Pacific Union. He suffered, especially lately, from severe diabetics. He was the most gentle of people, and was well known as a wise and faithful pastor and friend.   Adrian F. Meaney MSC

John Ikataere Rarikin MSC

John Ikataere Rarikin was born on 6th of January, 1944 on Butaritari Island,
John was the 3rd eldest in a family of 4 boys and 6 girls.

From 1960 -1964 he studied at St Peter Channel Seminary in Ulapia,
Kokopo, PNG.
He entered the Novitiate in 1965 and made his first profession on the 2nd
of March 1966.

Between 1966 and 1971 he did his Seminary studies at De Boismenu
College, Bomana, Port Moresby in PNG.
He returned to Kiribati after completing his Seminary studies and was
Ordained a Priest on the 30th of September 1972.

2011 Appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as the Ecclesiastical Superior of "Sui Iuris", Mission
of Funafuti, Tuvalu

In October 2011, John was diagnosed with end-stage Kidney failure (Hemodialysis).
He began dialysis treatment towards the end of 2011.

John was born to eternal rest on Saturday, 8th February, 2014 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart House, Suva, Fiji.
He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 12th February 2014 at the MSC Cemetery, Savura Creek, Valley Road, Wailoku (MSC Formation Centre).
