PRINCIPAL FOR DOWNLANDS COLLEGE

The new Principal for Downlands College has been appointed.  He is Mr. Stephen McIllhatton.

 

Stephen has a B.Sc., Dip. Ed. and a Masters of Education from the University of New South Wales. He also has a Grad. Cert. in Religious Studies and Grad. Dip. in Theological Studies from the Australian Catholic University. Stephen is married with three children the youngest of whom is in Year 11.

 

Stephen began his career as a teacher and year level Coordinator at Cleveland Street Boys High in Sydney. After this he spent fourteen years at Waverley College in Sydney in a variety of positions: Head of Mathematics Department, Director of Administration, Deputy Headmaster (Curriculum) and finally Deputy Headmaster. Following this he was appointed Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Melbourne. After 2004 Stephen was appointed Education Consultant with the Catholic Education Office, Lismore.

Stephen has a strong understanding of and commitment to the education of young people in the Catholic tradition. His years of experience have given him skills that equip him well for the task of leading Downlands College through the next phase of its life and development with a strong emphasis on educational and academic endeavours.

John Mulrooney MSC, Provincial Superior and former Principal of Downlands, added, 'At this time we would like to especially thank Mr. Terry Finan for his leadership of the College during this period of transition.'
