Fr Laurie Bissett MSC is parish priest of Thursday Island. He offers an outline of the parish's history as well as an invitation at the end to fellow MSC for supply work in July-August.

Sacred Heart Mission Thursday Island (including other islands in the Torres Strait such as Hammond, Horn, Prince of Wales, and the Northern Cape York Peninsula towns of Bamaga and Seisia, and extending an outreach, due to lack of priests in the Cairns Diocese, to Weipa), was founded by Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in 1884.

 BARRY O'FARRELL AT ST JOHN'S

BarryO-Farrell

Mr O'Farrell looks like his mother but takes much of his nature from his late father and his grandfather Bill O'Farrell, who was a country cop.

Flamboyance does not seem to be in the man's DNA. Brother Greg McCann at Darwin's St John's College's calls O'Farrell a "grey man".

Former NSW premier Keneally back on parish duties roster

Kristina Keneally

---

Former NSW premier Kristina Keneally became emotional while speaking to members of her church in Sydney's east on Sunday, while thanking them for support during her election campaign, said a report from The Sunday Telegraph on news.com.au.

Addressing 150 members of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Kensington, Mrs Keneally chocked back tears, saying she hoped to become more involved with the church now she was a backbencher, and joked that the liturgical roster would now take precedence over politics.
