Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, an Australian community, in a worldwide religious congregation.
Jesus loved with a human heart: with him we proclaim his love to the world.
We work to discover through advocacy, healing and reconciliation, God's presence in our world.
We are to be on earth the heart of God. God has no other heart but ours.

NEW BOOK ON KEN CLANCY MSC
‘The Royal Australian Air Force’s motto, Per Ardua ad Astra (Through Hardship to the Stars), describes well a theme in the life of Brother Ken Clancy MSC. I first met him in Melbourne where he was living in the Sacred Heart Monastery in Croydon, Victoria. He phoned our community health centre to ask if we knew any old people at home on their own who would appreciate a visitor. Thirty years later, he lives at Chevalier College in Bowral, NSW.’ (From the Introduction to the book by Brenda Hill.)

REFUGEE RAPID RESPONSE CAMPAIGN
There have been some positive, though limited, announcements from the Government with regards the treatment of refugees and asylum seekers. It seems to be testing the water to find out how Australians will respond to this. The possibility for change is palpable. It is important that we become more engaged because people are much better understanding of the vulnerable people seeking asylum and are therefore pro-refugee. Too often, the Government is receiving complaints from the negative voices in the community and the media. It is important that we affirm the goverjnment so that it will have the courage to do more. The anti-refugee lobby has influenced the immigration debate up to the present. We need to continue to lobby the government so that it will not be discouraged by the minority voices when the majority are silent. Sister Aileen Crowe and I would like to organise a Refugee Rapid Response Campaign, made up of volunteers, who will be part of this campaign to contact the government with affirmative or negative messages. Let me know if you are interested in this campaign. We will keep you posted.

Interior of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Randwick
MSC PRESENCE TO MARY McKILLOP AS SHE DIED
The media, print, audiovisual and on-line has shown unprecedented interest in Mary McKillop during this time of her canonisation. Christians have been impressed by her spirituality, service and the miracles attributed to her intercession. Non-christians have been impressed by her practical sense of service to the needy (and her saying that whenever she saw a need she tried to do something about it). Australian sentiment has been riding high with acknowledgement of Mary as a role model for Australians, a strong woman, a woman of faith and courage even with authorities in the church, a woman who shows contemporary Australians where they should be looking for the achievement of social justice.
There is an MSC connection to the saint’s death.

Santa Teresa where John worked for six years
A TRIBUTE TO JOHN O'BRYAN
Jim Littleton MSC
John O’Bryan (later known as Tex) was born at Halston in Gippsland on July 22, 1927. He came to Douglas Park in 1946, where he repeated the equivalent of Year 12 studies. He said that he chose the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, after investigating other religious congregations, because of the MSC emphasis on the love of God. John took his first vows on February 26, 1948 and was ordained as an MSC priest in Melbourne in July 1954. As a seminarian he had a deep interest in missionary work. Hence it came as no surprise that after teaching at Chevalier College in 1955, he was appointed to Santa Teresa Mission in the Northern Territory in 1956.
