Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart PDF Print E-mail

The Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred heart was founded in 1900 in Germany by Father Hubert Linckens, a Dutch Missionary of the Sacred Heart. He wanted his sisters to share the spirit and mission of his own Congregation - a spirit of heartfelt, outgoing love for people everywhere.

Our Australian Province was founded in 1928, when six adventurous women arrived in Melbourne from the USA and Germany. Theirs is the story of migrants who have come to our shores over the years. In passionate pursuit of their ideal, they left home and country to make a new beginning in the land of the Southern Cross.

Trusting themselves to God’s Providence, they found themselves facing situations, with a courage beyond their own strength, and doing things they would never have dreamt possible.

From these early adventurous beginnings, future MSC Sisters found themselves responding to the needs of the Australian people as a presence mainly in the areas of health care and education. However, as the years past and needs changed, we find ourselves involved in various activities where "heart meets heart" in a busy world.

These ministries include:

Pastoral care
Parish work
Liturgy
Spiritual direction and retreats
Health and Aged Care
Assisting migrants
Assisting the disabled
Missionary involvement as needed
Involvement in other areas of need.

Our MSC vision is "to be the Heart of God in the world".

We are an international missionary congregation of over a thousand women working in Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, U.S.A., Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru, Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, South Korea, India, the Philippines and Australia.

"IN THE FACE OF VIOLENCE - LOVE!" - These words lived out in today’s world help us to echo the sentiments of our founder, Father Hubert Linckens MSC.

If you were interested in entering into a formation program with us, you would find yourself involved in "community living" and accompanied by an MSC Sister journeying with you.

The formation program would be individually tailored for you, so as to compliment your growth and development into an MSC spirituality.

However, the stages and length of time which is applicable for all Religious Congregations will need to be incorporated and followed.

During this formation experience you would hopefully become inflamed with our shared desire to live a life of heartfelt, outgoing love for all people.

"For this heart you are in the midst of the world.
We have experienced God’s love and are called to share it through our being and our actions, in all circumstances, at all times."
(Father Hubert Linckens MSC, Selected Texts)
